“The Handicap”. Page two
And looking close it was plain to see
He’d been having a three week spree
No` like me in training strict
In bed by eight o’clock each night
Lying there at least till noon
Keeping every nerve in tune
Then two hand presses on the bedroom floor
A half hours rest then a couple more
Making sure that on the night
My muscles stood the strain alright
Then running three times round the table
Making sure my legs were able
To follow every bowl I throw
Though why we do it I just don’t know
I gave up working, smoking, drinking
I’ll never win again I’m thinking
But folks I need not tell you more
I ken that most of you were there
But now you know the reason why
Tam played even worse than I
There’s one more thing I’d like to say
Before I take this cup away
I couldn’t have played a nicer chap
In the final of the Handicap
